Safety Integrity Level (SIL) refers to the relative level of risk-reduction provided by a safety function, or to the target level for risk reduction. SIL is nowadays becoming increasingly important for fire and life safety systems. The requirements for functionality vary depending on the SIL level. A SIL level is determined by a number of quantitative factors together with qualitative factors relating to the product development process and life cycle management. IFAB’s certified engineers provide services for SIL approval, whether for a single fire, a life safety component or a complete system.
