IFAB was contracted to carry out fire tests for the protection of a test cells with Li-ion-batteries for electric vehicles to approve a high-pressure water mist system.

IFAB was tasked to develop a fire safety concept for the conversion of a building and for a new building to dismantle, process and recycle Li-Ion Batteries (Nickelhütte Aue).
IFAB has developed a fire safety concept for a buildung with a rectifier plant of the public transport company of Berlin (BVG) and started to conduct evaluation simulation for the BVG.
IFAB was contracted for the fire safety concept and smoke simulations (CFD) for Berlin Alexanderplatz (BVG). The unique underground station is over 100 years old and one of the most complex public transportation hubs in Berlin. The work was carried out 2021-2022.
IFAB completed reviewing a fire safety plant concept for a nuclear power plant.

The members of the International Water Mist Association (IWMA) have discussed and decided: The 21st International Water Mist Conference will take place in Madrid, Spain. The conference dates will be 9th and 10th November 2022. The conference venue will be the Elba Madrid Alcalá Hotel.
On 1st July, the conference programme will be published. Again, IWMA expect speakers from around the globe. The 1st conference day will be applications day and day two will mainly be dedicated to research and sciences.
A special highlight will be the bestowal of the IWMA Young Talent Award which, in 2022, will go to the author of the best master thesis. The winner will receive a prize money of 1,000 €, will be invited to the conference and will be granted a speaker slot to present his or her thesis.
An exhibition will run alongside the conference. Twelve companies have booked their tabletops already.

IFAB has again been asked by Goethe-Schule in Wetzlar to carry out hot smoke tests to validate the flawless functionality of the installed fire detection system in the new school-building. The tests became necessary because some of the smoke detectors installed in the ceiling were partially covered by newly suspended ceilings.
IFAB completed free burn fire tests of a complete rail vehicle as a base to validate numerical simulation methods.
IFAB’s responsibility was to develop the testing method with the measurement system, carry out all measurements,
HRR calculations (by different methods) and reporting of the test results.
The International Water Mist Association (IWMA) has announced that IWMC 2021 (the 20th International Water Mist Conference 2021) will take place on 27th and 28th October 2021. The venue will be Warsaw, Poland, the conference will be held in the Regent Warsaw Hotel. As in the previous years, IFAB will be an honorary sponsor of the event.

Day one will as always be “Applications Day” and can be booked separately. Day two will mostly be dedicated to sciences and research. An exhibition will run alongside the event. The water mist conference is an annual event and the only event solely dedicated to the water mist technology.
IFAB was contracted by the Berlin public transport system (BVG) to create a design fire curve for the metro vehicle types H and HK (large and small profile). This developed curve is used as a design fire curve for the smoke and evacuation simulations in all BVG stations in the future. The design fire curve is based on 4 different possible scenarios that all were simulated. The results of the most suitable scenario were chosen in order to create the final design curve.
IFAB carried out a training for a client in Switzerland with the following topic: NFPA 130:2020 (Standard for Fixed Guideway Transit and Passenger Rail Systems).
IFAB was re-accredited according to the revised ISO/IEC 17025:2018-03 for the proof of the effectiveness of water-based fire fighting systems by fire tests for rolling stock (rail vehicles), industrial plants, public places, store rooms, engine and machinery spaces, tunnel- and transport infrastructure systems as well as high-voltage batteries and the experimental determination of design fire scenarios by full scale fire tests: https://www.dakks.de/files/data/as/pdf/D-PL-19994-01-00e.pdf.

IFAB has carried out for and together with N2 Global a series of fire tests using various N2 Global fire extinguishing systems. Nitrogen was used as the extinguishing agent. The test scenarios were developed and implemented in close collaboration with N2 Global.
IFAB has carried out fire tests for one of the leading water mist manufacturers according to ARGE part II:2018 and UNI 11565:2016. High pressure water mist systems were tested in order to approve its efficiency in passenger areas for rolling stock. IFAB is specifically accredited for the application of such guidelines in fire tests.
IFAB was authorised by the BVG to generate fire safety concepts of various underground stations in Berlin. This also includes a conduction of extensive CFD simulations to study the efficiency of smoke extracting and evacuation conditions.
