Fire tests for N2 Glob­al

IFAB has car­ried out for and togeth­er with N2 Glob­al a series of fire tests using var­i­ous N2 Glob­al fire extin­guish­ing sys­tems. Nitro­gen was used as the extin­guish­ing agent. The test sce­nar­ios were devel­oped and imple­ment­ed in close col­lab­o­ra­tion with N2 Glob­al.

Fire tests accord­ing to ARGE part II:2018 und UNI 11565:2016

IFAB has car­ried out fire tests for one of the lead­ing water mist man­u­fac­tur­ers accord­ing to ARGE part II:2018 and UNI 11565:2016. High pres­sure water mist sys­tems were test­ed in order to approve its effi­cien­cy in pas­sen­ger areas for rolling stock. IFAB is specif­i­cal­ly accred­it­ed for the appli­ca­tion of such guide­lines in fire tests.

Sem­i­nar accord­ing to EN45545

IFAB car­ried out a sem­i­nar about the appli­ca­tion of the norm EN45545 reg­u­la­tions for a com­pa­ny spe­cial­ized on plas­tics rail­way vehi­cles.

Devel­op­ment of a fire extin­guish­ing con­cept for a grain stor­age

IFAB devel­oped a fire extin­guish­ing con­cept for a grain stor­age in Hobrechts­felde near Berlin that func­tions as an exhi­bi­tion room and a tech­ni­cal muse­um.

Car bat­tery fire resis­tance ser­vices from IFAB

IFAB has extend­ed its ser­vices to the auto­mo­bile indus­try by being able to car­ry out fire resis­tance tests of car bat­ter­ies accord­ing to: • GB/T 31467.3, Lithi­um-ion trac­tion bat­tery pack and sys­tem for elec­tric vehi­cles – Part 3: Safe­ty require­ments and test meth­ods • E/ECE/324/Rev.2/Add.99/Rev.2, Annex 8E, Fire Resis­tance.

Smoke tests (ARGE Stan­dard) – Haifa, Israel

IFAB suc­cess­ful­ly car­ried out smoke tests accord­ing to ARGE – Part 1. The test­ed new funic­u­lar vehi­cles are oper­at­ing inside a tun­nel to moun­tain Carmelit (in oper­a­tion since 1959).

Sem­i­nar regard­ing NFPA130 for a major sup­pli­er to the rail­way indus­try

IFAB car­ried out a sem­i­nar about the appli­ca­tion of the norm NFPA 130 reg­u­la­tions for a com­pa­ny spe­cial­ized in open­ing but­tons for road and rail­way vehi­cles.

IFAB was offi­cial­ly nom­i­nat­ed to par­tic­i­pate in the ARGE-Guide­line com­mit­tee for rolling stock.


CFD assess­ment to opti­mise a fire detec­tion sys­tem for a road tun­nel in U.A.E.

IFAB was con­tract­ed  to car­ry out a CFD assess­ment to opti­mize the fire detec­tion sys­tem for a road tun­nel in the U.A.E. The lin­ear heat detec­tion tech­nol­o­gy was pro­vid­ed by the UK based com­pa­ny.

Fire tests for Carmelit-Under­ground

IFAB com­plet­ed a series of fire tests in order to demon­strate  the per­for­mance of onboard fire sup­pres­sion sys­tem accord­ing to ARGE guide­line to be used in the Carmelit under­ground.

Fire risk analy­sis for Rail

IFAB has recent­ly fin­ished fire risk analy­sis for sev­er­al rail projects. The lat­est project, relat­ed to a region­al train, was deliv­ered to Stadler (Switzer­land) in Octo­ber.

IFAB senior man­ag­er to NFPA130 com­mit­tee

Max Lakko­nen, senior man­ag­er of IFAB, was select­ed to the tech­ni­cal com­mit­tee of NFPA130 (Rail & Metro). This fur­ther improves the use of IFAB’s spe­cial knowl­edge in rail mar­ket as a ben­e­fit to inter­na­tion­al stan­dards. He pre­vi­ous­ly has served already in the tech­ni­cal com­mit­tees of NFPA502 and NFPA750.

IFAB con­tract­ed by 4 water mist man­u­fac­tur­ers in 2017

IFAB’s spe­cial knowl­edge of active fire­fight­ing sys­tems is appre­ci­at­ed by many water mist man­u­fac­tur­ers. IFAB has car­ried out fire tests for four dif­fer­ent water mist man­u­fac­tur­ers in 2017. The test­ed appli­ca­tions cov­er rail, build­ings and indus­tri­al risks.

IFAB test­ed an arag­o­nite fire extin­guish­ing sys­tem for high-speed train

IFAB car­ried out suc­cess­ful val­i­da­tion tests for an argonite fire extin­guish­ing sys­tem pro­tect­ing parts of an engine room and to secure dri­ver pro­tec­tion and evac­u­a­tion in case of fire of a Scan­di­na­vian high-speed train. This was the first time for IFAB test­ing respec­tive fire extin­guish­ing medi­um in this appli­ca­tion.

Smoke tests for Ital­ian train man­u­fac­tur­er

IFAB has suc­cess­ful­ly com­plet­ed a series of smoke tests for the Ital­ian train man­u­fac­tur­er FIREMA. The tests were car­ried out accord­ing to the ARGE guide­line in order to test a fire detec­tion sys­tem in a mod­i­fied vehi­cle.

Fire safe­ty con­sul­tan­cy for Hotel Vil­la Monte Vino

IFAB was con­tract­ed to put into prac­tice the fire safe­ty con­cept for the his­tor­i­cal­ly impor­tant Hotel Vil­la Monte Vino in Pots­dam. New safe­ty mea­sures were imple­ment­ed as part of the approval pro­ce­dure.

  • Fire detec­tion sys­tem val­i­dat­ed through hot smoke tests car­ried out in a school-build­ing in Wet­zlar

  • IFAB has again been asked by Goethe-Schule in Wet­zlar to car­ry out hot smoke tests to val­i­date the flaw­less func­tion­al­i­ty of the installed fire detec­tion sys­tem in the new school-build­ing. The tests became nec­es­sary because some of the smoke detec­tors installed in the ceil­ing were par­tial­ly cov­ered by new­ly sus­pend­ed ceil­ings.

  • Free burn fire tests of a rail vehi­cle to val­i­date numer­i­cal sim­u­la­tion meth­ods

  • IFAB com­plet­ed free burn fire tests of a com­plete rail vehi­cle as a base to val­i­date numer­i­cal sim­u­la­tion meth­ods. IFAB’s respon­si­bil­i­ty was to devel­op the test­ing method with the mea­sure­ment sys­tem, car­ry out all mea­sure­ments, HRR cal­cu­la­tions (by dif­fer­ent meth­ods) and report­ing of the test results.
